Footballs, goals, flags, other equipment

football flagThe equipment used in football matches varies depending on how professional the game is. A professional game will use two goals, two nets, a whistle for the referee, yellow and red cards and a football. Flags for off sides and fouls spotted by the linesmen are also needed and spare footballs are a must in today’s fast paced games.

People playing football in a non-professional game may choose to use other equipment for a goal post and kids can often be seen playing the game by using jumpers as goal posts.

Flags are used by linemen to alert the referee to anything they see and they now even use a walkie talkie system that means that can all communicate with each other through small mouth pieces. Yellow and red cards are important in a game and players who break the rules will be sent off with straight red cards.

Those who are being warned of an offence will be given a yellow card but the second yellow card in one game will mean a red card is shown automatically. Substitutes coming on and off are usually indicated on a board so some sort of board that shows numbers and names would be beneficial in a match.

Football kits are obviously an important part of a match and every team will have at least one home and one away kit to use. These allow players to tell the difference between each other and the referee will never wear colours that look like one or the other team.
